How to make socks or boot covers

How to make boot covers / socks / stockings.

So it appears boot covers/ socks are something that people struggle with often. Having found this VERY helpful and after searching the net and seeing that others also found this method helpful i decided to make a tutorial. Woohoo.

Sick of putting material around your leg and trying to pin it together and it just not working out how you want it to? Never fear! just follow the steps below. If you just wanna try pinning it to your leg scroll to the bottom and there is a picture guide to help.

You will need:

Cling film (also known as glad wrap, or saran wrap)
Masking tape (also known as painters tape)
Scissors
Material you want to use

First you wanna use your cling film and wrap it around your leg. If you're making boot covers you want to be wearing the shoes that you will be attaching your fabric to. Wrap it around you're entire leg and around the shoe/boot you want to cover. I'm going for sock type things so i just wrapped it around my leg and then the heel of my foot so it doesn't ride up.

Next take the masking tape and starting from the bottom (i learned the hard way) tape up your leg covering all of the cling film and wrapping it up as high as you wish your boot covers/ stockings to go.

Now take your scissors and cut down the side of your leg this is where the seams of your socks/boot covers will be. You should now have a cast of your leg as shown in the 2nd picture above.

Cut along the other side of the leg cast you've made and lay them flat so you have the shape of your leg as a template now to cut around on the desired fabric.
